What is MLD? Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) was developed by Dr. Emil and Estrid Vodder in the early 1930's. Prior to that time, massaging or palpating lymph nodes was considered a taboo practice in the health care field. Dr. Vodder viewed lymphatic fluid not only as interstitial fluid, but ultimately as all the protoplasm of all the cells in the body! He and his wife compiled a systematic sequence of light touch skin massage movements that incorporates circular pumping and draining techniques which improve lymphatic flow. The purpose of the procedure is to stimulate lymphatic flow in the direction of the natural pathways of lymph drainage. This relieves congestion in swollen blocked lymph nodes promoting four main effects in the body. Lymph drainage therapy is a very effective, painless and non-invasive therapy for lymphedema. It is excellent for pain relief, relaxation, swelling and detoxification. MLD is useful pre & post surgically to promote healing and relieve swelling. It is also great for scar treatment, post stroke treatment, tension headaches, migraines, neuralgia, carpal tunnel syndrome, sinusitis, tinnitus, Meniere's disease, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, toxic poisoning, scleroderma, other auto immune diseases and much more! |
