Cancer Massage / Cancer Wellness The Cancer
Wellness Program is integrated to enhance body, mind and spirit. Multiple caregivers, using a team approach, assess your current level
of wellness. We then develop coping strategies to improve your life while living with cancer or a loved
one with cancer.
This program is in addition to your medical care.
Guided imagery, energy healing, lymph drainage, aroma, music, nutrition and various
massage techniques are utilized. Protocols and attitudes are changing about massage and cancer.
Bernie Siegel, M.D. says that massage therapy is not contraindicated in
cancer patients, massaging a tumor is, but there is agreat deal more to a
person than their tumor. Cancer Massage can have a positive effect on edema, pain, nausea,
insomnia and fatigue. It can help with improving mood, induce
relaxation, decrease anxiety and sense of isolation. Appetite,
sleep, self value and quality of life are also improved. Just
touching and knowing where and how is a great benefit. Betty & Kathy have earned certification in Cancer Massage from
Tracey Walton, who is one of five elite therapists in the country
certified to teach this specialty. They are therefore listed in the
national directory for cancer massage. In addition, they have also
taken additional cancer massage workshops around the country. Many ongoing studies to watch include Beth Israel-Deconess Medical
Center in Boston, National Institute of Health and many more.
Research is listed on-line and many references are available to review if
interested. In addition to Tracey Walton; Debra Curtis, Cheryl Chapman, Gayle
MacDonald and Charlotte Versagi are the authors, researchers and teachers
and their websites are available. As per Ann Landers:
